CALL TO ARTISTS!!! LGBTQ ART A RESPONSE TO ORLANDO SHOOTING

I had sat silent, processing the events of June 12th 2016. Watched as politicians use death as a means to rally their side of the isle. Held back tears watching family and friends of the victims speak of there loved ones.

I want to do something.

Our community is strongest when we work together. We are at war. Not just the LGBTQ community but all of American culture. And that is what sparked this idea. To quote RENT, “The opposite of war isn’t peace, it’s creation.”

That is want I want to do. I want to create a book containing 102 pieces of art, comics, stories, pin-ups, photos, etc. to honor the lives of each person who lost their life at PULSE in Orlando.

Below is the Press Release, please pass it on to all your friend that may want to contribute!

STAY SAFE, STAY STRONG AND MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD!

Calling 102 Cartoonists, Artist and Writers Respond to LGBTQ Hate, Gun Violence and Celebrating Our Strength.

It is with a sad heart and a determined head that we send out this rally call to comic creators, artist and writers! As we are all aware, gun violence and hate is out of control in this country. To easy is it for people with disdain in their hearts to get ahold of a weapon and use it to cause serious damage to our community and others like us.

Gun Controlled (Working title), is a zine responding to the tragic massacre that took place on June 12th at 2 am in an Orlando gay nightclub. We are looking for 102 comic creators, artists and writers to donate a one page piece of art, comic, cartoon, illustration, poem, etc. Each page is a representation of a lost life or wounded individual tragically associated to this terrible massacre. We want art that deals with fighting gun laws, dealing with loss resulting from the use of guns, expressions of feelings about gun control and the American view of being controlled by the gun.

It is our hope to debut this book at Flame Con NYC’s first queer comic con August 20th and 21st 2016. All proceeds will be donated to the victims and family of the people effected by the tragic events at Pulse Bar.

“Permanent Person”

COVERFINAL.jpgFor the past few months I have been hard at work on a long form graphic novel that I will be debuting the first chapter of at the Maine Comic and Arts Festival June 4th. “Permanent Person” is a project close to my heart, as it is about a young boy who is diagnosed with cancer and his battle with the disease.

After June 4th it will be available online for sale to cover the cost of printing but I will keep it on the affordable side as I want to get it in as many hands as possible because I feel young adults dealing with cancer is a subject that not enough time is spent talking about and the struggle is very real and very scary.

Meditation on Tumors

The quiet alone times when dealing with cancer, for me have always been the worst. When my mind has a chance to wander it tends to run to the worst case scenario and I worry about everything that could be going wrong within my body. Meditation can be a good form of therapy but for me, I tend to create images of things that might be happening to me.Meditationoncancer
